What do we believe?

Our statement of faith can be described as Evangelical Protestant. Its basis is rooted in the Christian Apostolic Creed.

The Bible is the Word of God

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. In the Scriptures, God shows us who He is and what His plans are for us and His world. (Mat. 5:18; Mat. 24:35; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 1:16-21)

We believe in one God, who eternally exists as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. (Mat. 3:13-17; Mat. 28:18-20; 1 Cor. 12:4-6; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:1-2)

The creation of heaven, earth and mankind

We believe God created the world. We also believe He created mankind, male and female. (Gen.1:27,28, Mar.10:6-9)

We believe God created marriage, an exclusive covenant between a man and a woman. (Gen.1, Gen.2, Mal.2:13-16, Mat.19:4-6, Heb.13:4, 1 Cor. 7, 2 Cor.6:14)

As a consequence, the covenant of marriage is the way God created for a man and a woman to live together in a love relationship.

The central role of Jesus

We believe Jesus is the Son of God. We believe He was born out of the virgin Mary. We believe He lived a sinless life and that He perfomed miracles while He walked on earth. (Mat., Mar., Luk., Joh.)

We believe Jesus died on a cross as a substitute for mankind. We believe He resurrected physically and is now alive again. We believe He atoned for us and brought us back in relationship to God the Father. (Is. 53, Joh.3:16, Rom. 3:21-25; Rom. 6:1-4; Rom. 10:5-13; 1 Pet. 3:18-22, 2 Cor.5:11-21)

We believe Jesus rose to heaven and returned to the Father. Right now He is seated at the Fathers right hand, from where He one day will return in splendor and glory. (Acts 1, Heb. 1:3, 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22; Acts 7:55-56, Is. 65:17-25; 66:15-25; Mat. 25; Joh. 5:25-29; 1 Cor. 15; Op. 20-22)

We believe Jesus’ followers, guided by the Holy Spirit, are continuing Jesus’ mission on earth today. (Mat., Mar., Luk., Joh.; Joh.1:1-18; Mat.1; Rom. 1:2-4; Phil. 2:5-11; Col. 1:15-20; Heb. 1:1-4; 1 Cor. 15:1-11)

Gods plan with mankind

We believe every person sins and is lost unless He or she is reborn by the Holy Spirit. This rebirth is part of Gods plan of salavation, who wants all to be saved and no-one to perish. (Acts 2, Joh.3, Rom.3:21-25, Rom.5-7)

We believe God has a plan for each human life. Whoever you are, wherever you come from and whatever you have done. God favours no one and He doesn’t pick sides. Rather, He desires everyone to meet Jesus and to start following Him. (Deut. 10:17-19, Jer.11:28, Mat.5:43-45, Acts 10:34-43, 17:30-31)

We believe whoever repents, believes the gospel message and is baptized in water, is regenerated and receives a new heart, in which the Holy Spirit will come and dwell. (Mar. 1:14-15; Mat. 28:16-20; Joh. 3:16-21; Joh. 14:1-11; Acts 2-3; Rom. 3:21-25; Rom. 6:1-4; Rom. 10:5-13; 1 Pet. 3:18-22)

We believe in the contemporary ministry of the Holy Spirit. He dwells in the hearts of Christians. He empowers Christians to be faithful to Jesus and to become more like Him. This way, the Holy Spirit prepares us for the (final) goal of our salvation, a meeting with (or revelation of) Jesus Christ. (Joh.14-16,1 Pet. 1:5-9)

We believe the Holy Spirit also baptizes us into the body of Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit empowers us to make Jesus known to others. We believe the Holy Spirit today works through Christians to perform miracles like Jesus did when He walked on earth. (Mat.3:11, Joh.14-16, 1 Cor.12:13, Acts 1&2,10-11)

The role of the church

We believe in the spiritual unity of all people who believe in Jesus Christ. (Rom.12:4-5, Kol.3:16, Eph.2:19-20, 3:14-21,4:15, 1 Cor.12:13)

We believe the church is Gods community, where all believers come together as family and build &  shape the body of Christ. (1 Cor.3:9, Eph.2:19-20, 3:14-21, 4:15)

We believe it is wise to come together regularly, to eat and drink, to celeberate the last supper and to look after each other and our surroundings. (Acts 2:46-47,4:32, Jam.1:27, Heb.10:34-35, 1 Pet.3:8, 1 Joh.3,4:11)

We believe the Holy Spirits equips every believer to build up and equip the church of Jesus Christ. (Rom.12, 1 Cor.12-14)

Church leadership

We believe Jesus is the head of His Church, the Chief Shepherd to whom all shepherds (leaders of the church) are accountable. (Mat.16:18, Col.1:18,2:10, Eph.5:22-25, 1 Pet.5:3-4, Heb. 13:17; 1 Pet. 5:2)

We believe God Himself will call leaders and appoint them over His (local) church. We also believe God appoints leaders in the fivefold ministry to equip and strengthen the worldwide body of Christ. (Jer.23:1, Acts 6, 1 Tes.3:2, 2 Tes.2:17, Eph.4:11-16, 1 Tim. 3, 5, Tit.,1 Pet.5:)

We believe new church leaders are confirmed by the current leaders, when the current leaders acknowledge Gods call on the new leaders and consider the time is right for them to start serving. (Acts 6:1-7,14:23,18-28, 15:22)

We believe new church leaders are appointed with the help from (1) current leaders of the local church and (2) leaders from the fivefold ministry. As a consequence, in our church the current elders will ordain new elders and deacons together with the apostolic team from NCMI. (Acts 6:1-7,14:23,18-28, 15:22)
